A global super power in the wings… a vibrant economy… a market of enormous potential…! Yes, the world talks of India in these terms now but what is hidden inside the façade of rosy proportions is a grim reality that development in India is still an "Island Effect" where amid the vast land of poverty, stagnation and bleak prospect called "Bharat", a rich, sophisticated and globally attuned "India" stands shining as an Island of prosperity and bloom.
The rural India, the agricultural heartland of Bharat is such a large socio-economic landscape, which is the breading ground of Indian democracy but still remains aloof from the fruits of developmental politics that Indian democratic model of socio-economic growth enshrines in the Constitutional book. The picture suggests, though a bit metamorphic, the legendary picture of "Bharat Mata" under the yoke of slavery, of not foreign rule but a rule of our own corrupt and selfish people.
